Book Reviews
I first got in contact with Asokan's paintings when roaming through the streets of Tiruvannamalai one evening. I remember vividly how i was walking up Agni Lingam road and got captured by an illuminated, large scale painting in front of a gallery. I stood there for quite a while, being kind of sucked into the artwork.
In this moment i felt this soptlighted painting was exactly about just thtat: a Spotlighting, an Illumination, an Enlightenment. A revelation or reminder of the truth. An invitation to go deeper, beyond the forms presented at first sight, beautifull as they might already are.
Some weeks later i got the opportunity to speak to the artist personally and was impressed about the variety, the depth and also the stories behind his work. I personally felt that these paintings let one embark on a journey, a quest of discovering and understanding of how things really are - but actually the works are not about things at all, but about yourself.
Up to now it was only possible to go on this journey in Aokans gallery in India, where a large selection of his works are presented all yesr round. Now, with the publishing of this wonderful coffeetable book, the portal for this encounter with Asolans art is open whereever you are.
Enjoy this unique spiritual trip with Asokan, that starts with the striking question "Who am I?". Maybe this book supports you in some way to find your own answer to it.
